Have you ever been so nervous, insecure and downright freaked out about trying something new, that you almost scrapped the whole thing?
That was me about two weeks ago, right before our first “expedition cruise” to the Galápagos Islands.
When I hear the word “cruise,” I think: leisurely days with a mindless beach novel, sipping a colorful beverage with an umbrella on top, while you listen to a steel drum band on the Lido deck.
An “expedition cruise,”according to Dr Google, is “an adventurous, small-ship voyage that prioritizes wildlife viewing, education, and exploration in remote, hard-to-reach destinations over traditional onboard entertainment.”
After many decades of playing it safe, even knowing there would be sea lions, iguanas, red crabs and under-the-sea creepy things, OH MY! we made our way to Quito, Ecuador and ultimately the Galápagos Islands.
And, boy am I glad we did.
Sassy blue-footed boobies, flamingos, gigantic tortoises, Galapagos penguins, playful sea lions, even my first deepwater snorkeling adventure in a wet suit, OH MY~ became some of the coolest moments I can ever remember.
All this to say… try the new thing. Say yes, even if you have to do it scared. Life is too short to play it safe.
