This weekend family and friends will gather in Athens, Georgia to celebrate an amazing lady- my extraordinary, courageous, hilarious sister-in-law, Kay. Two days after Christmas, Kay went to be with the Lord, following an 18 month battle with brain cancer. We grieve because she was one of the coolest people many of us have ever known… overflowing with love and a passion for life.
We celebrate with confidence because she is healed and more alive now than ever. Thank You, Jesus!
A few things Kay taught us along the road:
*when the doctors give you crummy news you let it sink in a minute, then you make a plan of attack. In Kay’s words, “you just deal with it!”
*when hospice was called in a year ago, and started throwing around terms like, “comfort care, and quality of life,” you take that as a challenge to fight harder, and get a little stronger every day. Then you set some goals… like going to the beach, watching the [outstanding] UGA Tennis Team, and walking down the aisle at a wedding in Savannah…and accomplish all of them!
*you understand what “no fear” is all about. Kay was really not afraid. She knew she would be healed~ either here, or in heaven~ and either option was good with her.
*you know the best is truly yet to come.
My brother Mike and I had a great conversation, trying to imagine what Kay’s day of celebration would look like. I’ll never forget Mike’s words, “What would KK do?!”
Keep smiling, celebrating life & hugging the people you love- no matter what!
Philippians 4:13 pretty much sums up Kay’s contagious joy and perseverance~ “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.”
We will always love you, Kay!
