Dear Aurora community,
This week I had the privilege of traveling from South Carolina to Aurora to offer grief journals for families who lost loved ones in last week’s tragedies. Please know the nation continues to support you in prayer as the healing begins. As your community searches for ways to offer comfort, I’d like to suggest a few practical acts of kindness for the days ahead.
*Be there. Even when there are no words to make things better, your presence and a warm hug will speak volumes.
*Do something. A person who’s grieving will probably never ask for help. If a thought comes to mind, whether it’s delivering a warm meal, mowing the lawn, or providing a gift card- just do it.
*Let them talk. Encouraging the person who’s grieving to talk about happier times will keep cherished memories fresh. Consider a blank notebook as a thoughtful, yet inexpensive gift.
*Ask for Help. If you or someone you know is sinking and unable to cope with the sorrow, get help. A pastor or counseling center is a good place to start.
My prayer for the Aurora community is that the Lord will wrap His loving arms around you today and in the season to come. I ask that He will begin to restore your sense of peace, security and joy.
God bless.
